SME Joins ICMM as an Association Member

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, Inc. (SME) is pleased to announce that the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) has approved SME as an association member. ICMM is committed to the responsible stewardship of minerals, balancing the needs and interests of communities, conservation interests and other stakeholders.
In announcing the ratification of membership to SME, Tom Butler, CEO of ICMM said “I am pleased to welcome SME to ICMM’s membership. With so many younger mining professionals within SME’s membership, we look forward to having your unique perspective at the table.”
“This is outstanding. I am looking forward to working with ICMM going forward,” said Robert W. Schafer, SME President 2020-21. “I often refer to the ICMM leadership role in global mining in speeches that I give to SME as well as at other gatherings.”
