Cleveland-Cliffs announced that it plans to resume construction at its HBI facility in Toledo, OH while also accelerating the restart of its mining operations at Tilden.

Work at the HBI facility was suspended on March 20th because of COVID-19. Now, the company has begun remobilizing the workforce. There will be mandatory social distancing and other safety measures in place, which limits the number of workers. Still, construction is expected to be complete in the 4th quarter.

The Tilden Mine in Michigan supplies the company's AK Steel facilities in Middletown, OH and Dearborn, MI. The company now plans on restarting Tilden later this month, to respond to faster improvement in steel demand, WDIO reported.

"The demand for our steel, iron ore, and metallic products has recovered dramatically over the past month, and in light of this, we are restarting Toledo and Tilden sooner than we originally expected," Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves in a statement.

Northshore Mining remains idled. A portion of their pellets, the DR grade ones, will feed the HBI facility.
