Arch Coal appeals veto of West Virginia mine permit
Arch Coal’s subsidiary, Mingo Logan Coal Co., has filed an appeal of a 2011 veto of a mining permit for a West Virginia strip mine.
The appeal notice was filed in the Spruce Mine No. 1 mine case late November in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, The Associated Press reported.
Arch's previous appeal to reinstate the Logan County mine permit was rejected in March by the U.S. Supreme Court.
St. Louis-based Arch Coal reported a third-quarter loss of $97.2 million, compared with a loss of $128.4 million in the same quarter last year. Revenue dipped to $742.2 million from $791.3 million in the prior-year quarter.
