Clariant Mining Solutions expands plant in Chile

January 17, 2014

Clariant Mining Solutions has committed to a $1-million investment to expand its plant in Santiago, Chile and increase its global footprint in the production of sulfide ores flotation chemicals and fertilizer additives. The expansion will allow Clariant Mining Solutions to better support its growing customer base and further support the market growth of the company in South America, the company said in a release.

“Clariant is committed to serving its customers by improving its supply chain in South America and across the globe. This new investment will increase Clariant’s production of innovative, sustainable chemical and fertilizer solutions to support the robust growth of the South American mining industry,” said Norbert Ernstorfer, regional manager for South America South for Clariant Mining.

The upgrade of 5.9 kt/a (6,500 stpy), will add to Clariant’s existing chemical production capacity based in South America. Once the Chile plant upgrade is complete (estimated for February 2014), the plant will support regional and global demand for Clariant’s high-quality sulfide ore collectors and frothers as well as anti-caking and anti-dusting agents for fertilizers and industrial minerals. These products provide customers with increased recovery of minerals and superior end-product stability for fertilizers.
