Submit to MINEXCHANGE 2027 proceedings and Environmental Division Student Poster Contest

On Oct. 1, the SME programming team notified abstract presenters of their acceptance for the MINEXCHANGE 2027 SME Annual Conference & Expo technical sessions. If you were selected to present in these sessions in February, the Environmental Division strongly encourages you to consider submitting a paper that describes your presentation topic and how it reflects industry trends, best practices and/or advancements. Preparing a technical paper takes additional time and effort compared to just preparing a presentation, but the benefits of submitting a paper are that it will be published on the SME website and in the conference proceedings, and you will be eligible for the Outstanding Paper recognition from the Environmental Division. You may also consider submitting a journal version of the paper to the SME Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (MME) journal for peer review. Note that preprint manuscripts for the proceedings are due by Nov. 1, 2026. More information is available from conference session chairs and from the conference website at smeannualconference.org. The following are the 2027 Environmental Division session titles: ADTI: Geochemical Advances in Acid Rock Drainage Management. Mine Closure & Reclamation. Innovative Engineering for Sustainable Mine Containment and Restoration. Circular Economy and Waste Management. Clearing the Air: The Tech Behind Modern Air Quality Compliance. Microbiology in Mining: Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Extraction and Remediation. Social License to Operate. Mine Water Treatment. Operational Mine Water Management and Dewatering. Water Stewardship, Reuse, and Integrated Water Management. Emerging and Alternative Water Treatment Technologies. Student poster contest now open The Environmental Division Student Poster Contest for 2027 is now open for submissions and accepting abstracts. We welcome graduate and undergraduate students from any university to showcase their research projects on environmental aspects of the mining and extraction industries. Participating will give you the chance to present your poster and discuss your work with environmental professionals and faculty. You will also explain your work to a panel of judges selected from industry, academia and the Environmental Division leadership, who select the top three posters for cash prizes. All student presenters (one per poster) receive a complimentary ticket to the Environmental Division Luncheon, which immediately follows the poster session, where the winning posters will be announced. The Environmental Division poster presentations will be on the morning of March 2, 2027. All participants are highly encouraged to attend the luncheon, as it is a great opportunity to network with others and provides a chance for us to celebrate the winning posters. Interested students should submit abstracts to the contest by Dec. 15, 2026.
