Students shine in three poster contests…

The MINEXCHANGE 2024 SME Annual Conference & Expo included three student poster contests for students to showcase their research work and get the opportunity to interact with industry and academic professionals in the mining and minerals community, while winning attractive cash prizes and complimentary luncheon tickets. The posters for the SME Graduate Student Research Poster Contest were on display starting Feb. 26 in a designated area by the exhibit hall. The purpose of the annual contest is to recognize excellence in research in various minerals-related fields, and it is open to any SME student member currently enrolled in a minerals-related graduate program. The goal is to bolster graduate student education and contribute to research in mining and mineral studies. The Environmental Division Student Poster Contest is held annually as a way to encourage and foster the next generation of geologists, geological engineers, environmental engineers and environmental scientists, and to support their academic achievements. The division welcomes both graduate and undergraduate participants from a diversity of universities. The Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division (MPD) launched its first MPD Student Poster Contest in 2010. Since then, the contest has been held annually, allowing students to present and highlight their work in a fun environment and to network with professionals in the community. Contestants receive prizes on the graduate and undergraduate levels, with top-placing posters receiving $1,000 at each level. Every presenter receives a minimum of $125 and a ticket to the MPD Luncheon. More information is available at www.smenet.org/professionaldevelopment/ awards-competitions.
