National Mining Agenda revised and brought up to date
The National Mining Agenda for Occupational Safety and Health Research and Practice in the United States Mining Sector has been brought up to date with the inclusion of an additional research objective in surveillance. The Mining Sector Council of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), under the National Occupational Research Agenda program (NORA) looked carefully at the original 2013 agenda and found that there were gaps in the area of data adequacy and data analysis. In a year-long series of meetings and teleconferences, the sector council arrived at a number of additions to the agenda, more than half of which appear in the new “Objective 8. Surveillance.” The sector council is comprised of a number of experts from industry, government and academia. The SME Health and Safety Division supports the council and several members of its executive committee are also members of the sector council. The revised agenda can be found on the cdc.gov/niosh web pages at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/nora/councils/mining/default.html.
