Innovation: What does it really mean for the mining industry?

It has been said that the easy problems in the world have all been solved and what’s left are the harder and more complex issues. This statement certainly holds true in the mining industry in which innovation has evolved beyond creating a better machine or tool for the job to now include environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, such as earning and maintaining a social license to operate.

In a rapidly changing world, the mining industry, an industry that has rarely been accused of being one that is too quick to
change, is being pulled along into this evolution of thought, and it is meeting the challenge with creative and ambitious plans for the future. The entire mining lifecycle has benefitted from innovation and new technologies that range in scope from the very specific to the incredibly ambitious.
