COVID-19 and the United States mining industry; mining as essential critical infrastructure

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released its “Essential Critical Infrastructure” list of critical infrastructure workers who are vital to the national effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The nation’s mineworkers are included on that list and while that designation can provide a sense of economic security in uncertain times, the act of reporting to duty can lead to other degrees of stress.
