Mining Engineering , 2014, Vol. 66, No. 8, pp. 52-52

PREVIEW:

A coal mine located in southern West Virginia recently set a world record for daily low-seam coal production using a Cat automated longwall plow system. In a 24-hour period on April 10 and 11, 2014, the Pinnacle Mine longwall produced 32,411 t (35,724 st) from the Virginia Pocahontas No. 3 Seam, in a seam height of just 1.42 m (56 in.) along the 298-m (980-ft) longwall face.
