BHP Billiton New Mexico Coal operates four coal mines in the Four Corners area of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona. The company was faced with a technical skills training need. With many new employees, some retirements and continued advancements in technology, the company anticipated significant challenges in servicing and repairing its mining equipment. BHP Billiton is using apprentice and on-the-job training programs to maintain its technical skill level.
