Information technology increases mining efficiencies

A study by industry analysts Gartner Group found that the mining industry, compared with other industries, spends disproportionately small amounts of its gross revenue on information technology (IT). Companies in telecommunications, utilities and manufacturing spend about 3% of their gross revenue on information technology. Mining companies, however, spend just 0.3%.
