Greencastle cement expands, uses new production process

Mining Engineering , 2001, Vol. 53, No. 1, pp. 14-16

Commissioning and start-up began in June 2000 at Lone Star Industries’ expanded Greencastle, IN, cement plant. The expansion will nearly double the facility’s production capacity from 680 kt/a to 1.17 Mt/a (750,000 to 1.3 million stpy). The Greencastle plant also will introduce a new cementmaking process to the United States. The semi-dry process will also provide an environmentally sound alternative to achieving the stringent emission levels imposed by federal and state regulations.
