Expert system helps Kemess Mine increase throughput

 The implementation of a realtime expert system has made it possible for Northgate Exploration’s Kemess gold and copper mine in British Columbia to increase throughput by five percent and revenues by $7 million a year. “In the past, the mills were not pushed that hard because operators have many other jobs and were not able to focus on throughput,” said Greg Rasmussen, chief metallurgist for the mine. “We decided to implement an expert system to run the mill on a more consistent basis and stabilize our control strategy.”
