The National Safety Council (NSC) has identified eight trends of future work that were shaped in large part by the long-range effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the civil unrest of the summer of 2020 and other events that have reshaped our world during the past four to five years. During the pandemic in particular, many people were forced to drastically alter the way they lived, worked and played. And those who were deemed essential workers, like many in the mining industry, continued on under challenging circumstances. As a result, individuals and society itself took a step back and underwent an intense evaluation of all aspects of life. As the threat of the COVID-19 virus subsided, many people found that the new normal comes with unique and new challenges that might not have existed in their lives before the pandemic. These include substance abuse and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, and a host of other issues.
