It is common practice in the mining industry, and even legally required in many jurisdictions, to design two-lane haul roads in openpit mines to three-and-a-half times the widest dimension of the haul trucks operating on the road. In openpit gold mines with high strip ratios, road width has a significant impact on the economics of design.
