ABSTRACT:
The Smoky Canyon Mine is a phosphate mine located in southeastern Idaho. It is owned and operated by J.R. Simplot. The Smoky Canyon Mine complex consists of an openpit mine, mine offices, an ore beneficiation plant (including a flotation circuit), a phosphate concentrate slurry line, a tailings thickener and pipeline system, and a tailings impoundment (Lee, 2001). The beneficiation mill is used to crush, grind and size the ore to a fine powder. This powder is mixed with water to create the ore slurry.
