ABSTRACT:
In May 1998, North American Coal (NAC) began to evaluate the economics and feasibility of installing global positioning satellite (GPS) grade-control systems on a few of the bulldozers operating at San Miguel. During this evaluation, it was realized that these systems offered benefits if a few key issues could be resolved. It was also realized that the inability to resolve these issues would doom the project.
