Tailings dam performance from USCOLD incident-survey data

Mining Engineering , 2001, Vol. 53, No. 3, pp. 30-34
Strachan, C.

ABSTRACT:
Designers and operators of tailings dams can gain important information from the satisfactory and unsatisfactory performance of existing dams. The focus of assessing dam performance is not to pass judgment on an industry or to place blame on the designer or operator involved in a failure or accident. It is to gain knowledge from records of performance and apply that knowledge to the next design or project.
