ABSTRACT:
Roadheaders are commonly used in coal mines for roadway excavations. The prediction of roadheader performance is necessary for the planning of roadway projects and the estimation of costs. Although some researchers have suggested several performance prediction models for roadheaders, there is no generalized model among them. In this work, a new rock mass cuttability classification (RMCC) system is introduced for roadheaders used in coal mines, and performance prediction models for both axial and transverse roadheaders are developed using the RMCC system. The derived estimation equations including the RMCC system can be reliably used for the prediction of the net cutting rate (NCR) of roadheaders used in coal mines.
