The National Mining Association's (NAM) members have eleceted a new slate of officers for 2016, the trade group said.
NMA's membership chose Alpha Natural Resources Inc.'s chief executive officer Kevin Crutchfield to be board chairman and Phillips Baker, chief executive officer of Hecla Mining Co., was elcted as the new vice chairman.
Crutchfield will help represent NMA's coal mining and eastern U.S. interests, which are focused on pushing back against the Obama administration's climate agenda.
Baker, in contrast, will help represent NMA's Western and non-coal interests, which have expressed concerns about the administration's safety agenda and mine cleanup proposals.
Hal Quinn will remain the group's president and chief executive officer. Senior Vice President for Regulatory Affairs Bruce Watzman will serve as board secretary, Senior Vice President for Administration Roger Roberts as treasurer, and general counsel Katie Sweeney as assistant secretary.
