Tackling India's coal ash problem

PREVIEW:
India produces about 70 Mt/a (77 million stpy) of coal ash (fly ash and bottom ash) from burning about 200 Mt/a (220 million stpy) of coal for electric power generation. The average ash content is 35%. In contrast, the United States produces about 70 Mt/a (77 million stpy) of coal ash from burning 800 Mt/a (880 million stpy) of coal for power generation. Its average ash content is less than 10%.
